The Marvel Rivals competitive ladder can be a confusing mess of ranks, tiers, and ELOs that can be difficult for new players to navigate. While its ranked system is akin to that of Overwatch, there are some important details and restrictions to keep in mind. At first, players aren’t even able to access the Competitive Mode, and you’ll need to sink multiple hours into the game before you can start grinding up the tiers.

The rewards for going through this process are updated every new season, typically ranging from special costumes and nameplates to a lavish crest that lets you flex with ease. If you’re looking for a breakdown of the game’s Competitive Mode, here are all the Marvel Rivals ranks explained.

All Marvel Rivals Ranks in Order Explained

There are a total of nine Marvel Rivals ranks, seven of which have three different tiers. Check out their full order below:

All ranks up to Eternity have three tiers to progress through. You’ll need to accumulate 100 ranked points to advance to the next tier, meaning it’ll take a total of 300 points to ascend to a higher rank.

Once you reach Eternity, however, you’ll have to rack up points on an incredibly competitive leaderboard and make it into the top 500 players to hit the highest rank in Marvel Rivals. If you do find yourself in the highest ELOs, you’ll need to play competitively regularly or risk losing your position. Of course, the higher your rank at the end of the season, the better the rewards you’ll end up receiving.

The rank distribution provides some insight into which tiers are the most competitive or the most populated. We’ll be sure to update this article following Season 6‘s rank reset.

Marvel Rivals Ranks System and Reset Explained

The Rivals rank reset kicks in at the start of every new season. As part of the reset, your rank at the end of the previous season is reduced by seven tiers, or roughly two and a half ranks. For instance, if you finished the season at Gold 1, your rank at the start of the new season will be Bronze II. This is done to ensure that the competitive scene starts off on a fresh note after every seasonal update.

How Does Marvel Rivals Competitive Ranked Mode Work?

Marvel Rivals’ Ranked or Competitive mode utilizes the same gameplay format found in Quickplay, albeit with a few interesting tweaks. However, its base requirements are set in stone, and all players must reach Level 10 to gain access to the mode. To make this process easier, be sure to use the best Marvel Rivals Heroes in Quickplay.

The first major tweak in the Competitive mode is tied to the Chrono Shield system. Think of it as an active safeguard against rank demotion because that is precisely what it does. If you embark on a losing streak, the Chrono Shield will begin charging and activate once the bar is full. When this happens, you’ll be protected from dropping to a lower rank, although the Shield will be depleted temporarily.

The second tweak in Ranked mode is associated with the higher-tier ELOs. After reaching the Diamond rank, your team will be granted the ability to ban two heroes each game. This obviously protects matches from drowning in the repetitive cycle of meta Heroes and triple Strategist set-ups, although you’ll still run into plenty of those.

What Ranks Can Play Together in Marvel Rivals?

In Ranked mode, Marvel Rivals enforced a ranking disparity rule. These kick in the Gold 1 to Celestial range, where you’ll only be able to join terms with players that are within three divisions. Players in Eternity or One Above All can team up with Celestial II players within 200 points, but can only queue solo or as part of a duo. Rest assured, players in ranks Bronze through Gold can play together freely.

How Does Marvel Rivals Ranked Crossplay Work?

For competitive reasons, Marvel Rivals Ranked does not feature crossplay between PCs and consoles. While players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms can play together, PC users cannot be queued with console players in competitive lobbies. This is due to the obvious differences in input methods and hardware configurations, and helps ensure that all matches are fair.

In case you’re wondering what these crests are, they’re basically cosmetic nameplate icons that show off your competitive edge. The red crest (One Above All) is naturally the most coveted.

And that wraps up everything you need to know about the Marvel Rivals ranks. What is your highest competitive placement? Let us know in the comments.

Can you ban Heroes in Marvel Rivals Ranked?

Yes, after reaching the Diamond rank, your team will have the ability to ban two Heroes before every match.

How to get Marvel Rivals Ranked rewards?

You’ll receive Marvel Rivals Ranked rewards automatically at the end of the season as long as you’ve played at least 10 matches.

What Marvel Rivals ranks can play together?

Players in ranks Bronze through Gold can play together freely, while higher tiers have restrictions. Gold I to Celestial has a 3-division limit, and Eternity to One Above All typically only allows duo queues with a strict Rank Points difference, often around 200 RP or less.
